Sen. Sherrod Brown, take a bow.

The economic populist from Ohio who some Democrats believe might be their party’s best shot to bring back Rust Belt voters who backed Trump in 2016 has decided against running in 2020.

Brown’s core message, “the dignity of work” is one he says he’s confident other candidates in the (crowded) field will champion.

“We’ve seen candidates begin taking up the dignity of work fight, and we have seen voters across the country demanding it — because dignity of work is a value that unites all of us. It is how we beat Trump, and it is how we should govern,” Brown said in a statement.

Former NYC mayor Michael Bloomberg also bowed out, but he pledged to keep his checkbook in the race.

So Brown and Bloomberg are out … but guess who isn’t?

A longtime New Hampshire Democrat with close ties to ClintonWorld tells InsideSources that “If Joe Biden doesn’t get in and there’s a huge lane left open,” don’t be surprised if she decides to fill it. This echoes reporting from the NYTimes’ Maggie Haberman that Hillary’s recent “no” was more of a “probably not.”

“They say she wasn’t trying to be emphatic and close the door on running when she spoke to a local reporter yesterday, and that she was surprised by how definitively it played,” Haberman reported. “The person also says she is extremely unlikely to run, but that she remains bothered that she’s expected to close the door on it when, say, John Kerry isn’t.”

Meanwhile, there’s reporting that Joe Biden is on the verge of his big announcement. His team says is “95 percent” of the way to yes. What’s the other five percent? Stay tuned.
